Church Music Pt. 2!

“I love rock-n-roll! Put another dime in the…” well, you know the song. It is true tho, I really do love rock-n-roll. The boom of the kick drum, the crack of the snare drum, the thump of the bass and the scream of a good electric guitar lick coming together with a voice belting out a catchy lyric became a love of mine way back in the eighties. Even today, when all of those elements come together, my heart races just a little bi
t faster and my hands start to clap and feet start to move to the rhythm. Not long after I discovered rock music, I learned about Christian rock music. It nearly blew me away that there were people in the world that took their love of rock and their love of Jesus and meshed them together. I remember eagerly waiting for my favorite groups to release their next albums. I could hardly contain my excitement when I finally got hear the new songs these people would put down on tape. In fact, I can remember world events by recalling the decade or year a Christian band released a new set of songs. Still today, I can’t wait to hear contemporary worship artists introducing new songs that the church and her people can lift to heaven. There is something wonderful about an entire congregation coming together and singing a new song. There is something special about a church body hearing a new song on the radio and then singing that song on Sunday morning. The writer of Psalm 96 understood the beauty of singing new songs, “Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.” (1-3) So today, sing anew song! Tune your radio, pull up your play list or make up a new song of your own! Sing to the Lord, praise His name!
