An Encouraging Word From Pastor Bill!

A Response to the San Berbardino Massacre

I made a promise to bring you a series of devotions of music in the church, but in light of yesterday’s massacre in California, I am compelled to write something different today. Check back tomorrow for the next entry in the music series. But for today…

Yesterday, two individuals took it upon themselves to end the lives of fourteen people and injured seventeen more and that doesn’t include the emotional damage so many other people endured and will continue to endure.

Church Music Pt. 2!

“I love rock-n-roll! Put another dime in the…” well, you know the song. It is true tho, I really do love rock-n-roll. The boom of the kick drum, the crack of the snare drum, the thump of the bass and the scream of a good electric guitar lick coming together with a voice belting out a catchy lyric became a love of mine way back in the eighties. Even today, when all of those elements come together, my heart races just a little bi
t faster and my hands start to clap and feet start to move to the rhythm.

Church Music Pt.1!

Seasoned Saints love hymns and newer Believers might not know if they’re singing something written last year or over 200 years ago. For centuries, music has been a part of the way God has been worshiped.
No matter how long a person has been in the Family of God, singing is a preferred mechanism for the Christian to lift a voice of praise. My dad loves hymns. I can remember hearing him singing every time we got in the car.

Choices

Even if the place we choose is a fast food joint, most of us like to go out to eat. Some of us like not having to cook or clean up the kitchen after a meal, but most of us like having a variety of food we can order. We simply open up the menu and we see all the choices we can pick from. We look it over and see what looks good and order whatever we want. Before we eat, we stop and offer thanks for the choice we just made. In fact, we thank God for what we’re about to eat even though we haven’t taken a single bite.

Instant Coffee

Over the last few years, we’ve been using one of those single cup coffee makers. We love it! All of the different flavors are fun to try and having the availability for a hot cup of joe at any point of the day without wasting a half of a pot is awesome. However, the thing we like the best is the time it takes to make the cup of hot wonderfulness. We simply put in a little plastic cup, snap down the lid, push a button and less than a minute later we have a cup of get up and go!

Hero and Scratch!

This is an Encouraging Word I wrote just over a year ago. It is a story of my daughters and celebrates their uniqueness. I hope it encourages you as much as I did when I wrote it and now reading it again.

-Back in the mid 1990’s the superhero movie craze was just getting started. That was awesome for me since I used to collect comics when I was a kid. Even now, I love the big screen adaptations of the characters I loved.

It’s the Weekend!

The Weekend!

Depending on your perspective, Friday marks the weekend either ramping up or winding down. You’re either excited to get out there and do stuff or to stay home and sleep. So, before you party or slumber, make sure you take a little time to care for your soul. The Apostle John knew a little about taking care of his soul and tied it to taking care of his body, “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul” (3 John 2).

Opinions…

Every once in a while, Mrs. Pastor Bill will ask me where I’d like to go to dinner. I usually say that I don’t really care because I can pick anything off the menu at whatever restaurant she’d like. She then insists that I pick a place. Eventually, I mention that I’d like a pizza or Mexican food and then she will say, “Oh, I was thinking about a burger”. Then we go get a burger.

Listening not hearing

When my youngest daughter was around five years old, we lived in a split level house. This particular home had the living room on the lower level and the kitchen on the upper level.

While my daughter and I were watching tv in the living room before dinner one evening, Kimy, my wife, decided to quickly clean out the fridge before cooking our meal.

Heart Felt

On this somber day of remembering the loss and pain we all experienced so many years ago, my mind fills with faces I cherish and people I love. We all have friends we wish would make better choices. We all have that crazy uncle we wish would not tell such off color jokes at family get togethers. We all have a very special loved one we wish would turn to God and accept Jesus as Savior.
