An Encouraging Word From Pastor Bill!

Anticipation

“1999” was a big hit on the music charts when I was in high school, and everyone in my graduating class loved it. The signature Prince driving snare drum, the high pitched synthesizers and the catchy refrain still rattle around inside my now much older brain. The reason all of my friends loved that song is because it talks about partying until the destruction of the world on the last day of 1999: “‘Cuz they say two thousand zero zero party over, Oops out of time! So tonight I’m gonna party like it’s 1999!”

Stick with it!

For years and years and years, I tired to find some craft that would interest my Kimy. Every birthday and Christmas I would scour the aisles of shops and department stores for the perfect latch-hook, needlepoint or set of knitting needles all in an attempt to help her discover a hobby she would really enjoy and want to spend time doing. Part of the problem was that if Kimy wasn’t good at it in the first attempt she wouldn’t touch it again.

“normal”

“I can’t wait to get back to normal” is an interesting phrase to me. When I hear it, I automatically think, “What’s normal and why go back there?” Summer after summer, so many of us experience change in our daily and week-end activities because kids are home all day, churches reduce the services they provide and a lot of factories change their hours of operation to avoid the heat of the day.

Heavenly Perspective

From the man who walked on water: “Though you have not seen him (Christ Jesus), you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” – 1 Peter 8 & 9.

Stuck, again…

Since I was a kid, video games have been an enjoyable part of my life. From the 25¢ arcade games like Pacman and Space Invaders to the PS3 I have at home, video games have brought me hours of entertainment.I really enjoy the home console over the arcades of my youth because I can actually save my progress and come back to the game when I have more time.

Intervention

Ok, so… We have a puppy. He’s about 8 months old. He’s cute and cuddly and for the most part a pretty good little guy. That is, until he finds something he really likes to do even if it is something that we don’t want him to do. For instance, we have a dog bed for our older dog that the puppy will not leave alone. He doesn’t want to lay in it… he wants to eat its stuffing.

I’m an enthusiast

I’m an enthusiast. I find stuff that really gets me excited and then I spend an exorbitant amount of time and money on it. I got into fishing and bought a new pole (or two) a lure (or two, or three, or four…) and a new tackle box (or two! I know, right?). I’m not even sure where most of that stuff is now. I could say the same thing about golf, blogging and pottery (yep… pottery).

Hinge Pin

Some of you might know that I’m sort of handy around the house. OK, that’s not entirely true… I know just enough about household maintenance to keep things together, but not enough to renovate a whole house. I remember when my dad and I were doing some much needed updating on an older home Kimy and I lived in several years ago.

Refocus

Once I allow certain thoughts to creep into my mind, certain words and even actions soon follow. This was brought to my mind this morning from Colossians 1, “Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior.

Look at all the people!

A few years ago, Kimy and I attended a church planter’s conference in the middle of winter. We arrived during the middle of the week and were the only group in the whole Christian complex. Early Saturday morning we take the elevator down for breakfast and as soon as the doors slide open we see people… Everywhere…
