iPad + Bluetooth + Keyboard = Connected!

I’m writing this article with a keyboard that is about half the size of a traditional keyboard. It has everything that it’s larger cousin has, but because it is so much smaller, some of the keys are in different places. The actual letters are where they should be, but many of the punctuation marks are shared with other keys.In order to use most of it’s ancillary aspects, I have to press the “function” button. For instance, while holding the “function” button, I must then press the “p” key in order to put ” on each side of a quote. Every morning, I used to sit and write these devotions without even a thought of typing, my fingers just knew what to do, but now I have to think through nearly every stroke of a key. One more thing about this keyboard… it’s wireless and connects to my iPad via Bluetooth. I’m not at all sure how Bluetooth works, but I do know that if I don’t activate the keyboard and make sure it is connected to the iPad, nothing I type will be recorded. What is the point of this? Just like my fingers automatically finding the correct key to press without much thought, my prayer life often finds the correct request and sentiments without much thought. There are times that I know my prayers have been more perfunctory and routine than sincere. I have to slow down and pay attention to the thoughts behind the function of my prayer. What’s more, I must be connected to God in order for those prayers to be recorded. Look at this prayer found in Psalm 5:1-3, “Listen to my words, Lord, consider my lament hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” Like King David, I want to know my prayer is being recorded as I wait expectantly for His answer. Today, slow down a moment and think about what you pray, not just about what you are praying for, but how you are praying. Don’t let your prayer become a function of your daily routine, make your prayer intentional and pay attention where you place your fingers.
